BMI (Body Mass Index) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. It's calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in meters squared (kg/m²).
BMI may overestimate body fat in athletes with high muscle mass because muscle weighs more than fat. Body fat percentage may be a better indicator.
For adults 20 years and older, the healthy BMI range is 18.5 to 24.9. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25-29.9 is overweight, and 30+ is obese.
